Mam Nawaz approves 62 billion PKR for ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program
A special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Mam Nawaz, during which important decisions were made regarding the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” (Own Roof, Own Home) program.
Mam Nawaz set a target of providing 40,000 loans for the program by May and directed that the loan distribution process be completed as soon as possible. She also ordered a review of the proposal to increase the loan amount to between 1.5 million to 2 million rupees.
During the briefing, it was informed that nearly 5,000 citizens across Punjab have already received loans under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program, and more than 4,200 houses are quickly progressing towards completion. In addition, through a collaboration between ROADA and the Housing and Urban Development Department, underprivileged families will also receive ready-made homes.
On this occasion, Mam Nawaz stated, “I want every homeless person to have their own roof. Owning a home is a basic right for every citizen.”
Earlier, Punjab government began distributing cheques to eligible families for house construction under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program.
The cheque distribution ceremony was attended by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mam Nawaz, who served as the chief guests.
During the event, Mam Nawaz stated that the Punjab government is fulfilling Nawaz Sharif’s vision by enabling those in need to build their own homes. She noted that approximately 500,000 applications have been submitted for the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program.
Under this scheme, eligible individuals will be offered loans of up to Rs 1.5 million, with a monthly ballot draw taking place each month. Mam Nawaz mentioned that the Punjab government aims to assist 100,000 people each year in constructing their houses through this initiative.
The “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program marks the first significant interest-free housing project in the country’s history.
