HUANGQIAO, China — Here in the world’s biggest violin-making town, young Chinese artisans are moving away from the mass production model to focus on hand-crafted quality in a bid to add value to their wares.

In Huangqiao, located in eastern China’s coastal Jiangsu province, more than 10% of the town’s population of 230,000 work in the violin industry.
