JAKARTA — Indonesia next month will launch a free medical checkup program targeting 200 million people over the next five years as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s push to improve human capital, the country’s health minister told Nikkei Asia.

Budi Gunadi Sadikin said free health screenings — in addition to other programs to improve quality of life such as the recently launched free meals for school children — are intended to support the new president’s goal of achieving 8% annual economic growth by the end of Prabowo’s five-year term.
