GUANGZHOU — Xiaomi’s SU7 electric vehicle has overtaken the Tesla Model 3 in Chinese sales a year after its release, turning the company into a rising star in EVs even as it continues to log solid growth in its mainstay smartphone business.
Earlier in March, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong met with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun at the latter’s EV factory in Beijing. Local media reported that Samsung, Xiaomi’s major rival on smartphones, was exploring cooperation with the Chinese company as it expands its footprint in electric vehicles.
