YOKOHAMA — An increasing number of water sports enthusiasts in Japan are taking to stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on rivers that wind through urban centers and residential neighborhoods.
This water sport, which involves standing on a large board and using a paddle for propulsion and control, is helping to bring new energy and vibrancy to local communities. Rivers are typically calmer and have fewer waves than oceans, making them more beginner-friendly and accessible.
