WASHINGTON — Richard Armitage, a respected figure in U.S. foreign policy toward Asia who served as deputy secret of state under President rge W. Bush, died on Sunday at age 79.

Armitage International, the consulting firm he founded, announced this on Monday. The cause of death was a pulmon embolism.
