Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan has addressed his altercation with Islamabad United’s Colin Munro during their PSL 10 clash. The controversy erupted when Colin Munro accused Multan Sultans’ all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking, prompting Mohammad Rizwan to confront the batter in a heated argument.
PSL’s official social media handles quickly posted a video clip of the exchange, which went viral. The match officials fined both players 30 percent of their match fees for committing a level 2 breach of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
A reporter asked Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan about his views on the incident during a media interaction on Friday.
Mohammad Rizwan responded to the question by saying, “In my understanding, it’s the umpire and match referee’s responsibility to take action.” The wicketkeeper-batter clarified that he told Colin Munro it was the match officials’ job to inspect Iftikhar Ahmed’s bowling action.
Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans continue to struggle in PSL 10, sitting at the bottom of the points table with only two points from their last five matches.
Multan Sultans secured their first and only win of the ongoing tournament in their fourth game against Lahore Qalandars. However, Islamabad United handed them a defeat in the very next match.
In the same interview, Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan partially blamed poor fielding for the team’s defeats in PSL 10, stating that fielding lapses make it challenging for the entire team.
“After conceding 235 in the first game, you can see our bowling improved in the next matches. I think the mistake is in our fielding. If we give opportunities to batters, then we have to dismiss 13 to 14 instead of 11 players,” he said.
