NEW YORK — California remains open to Chinese trade as President Donald Trump’s 145% tariff on Beijing threatens the largest state economy in the U.S, Gov. Gavin Newsom said in an online interview with Nikkei Asia on Friday.

Newsom said that while the California government has not had any direct high-level conversations with Beijing, the state is a “stable partner” and has “extended an open hand” to China and other trading partners.
