The Indian armed forces launched “Operation Sindoor,” hitting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government said in a statement.

No Pakistani milit facilities have been targeted in the action that happened early Wednesday local time, the statement added.

“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature,” the Indian Armed Forces said in a statement. “No Pakistani milit facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution.”

The strikes come after last month’s deadly attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir.

Pakistan has denied any role in the massacre of mostly Indian tourists, and offered to cooperate with a credible international investigation. India has so far not accepted the offer and several world leaders have urged both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.
