NEW YORK — American farmers have been put in a difficult spot as they struggle to adapt to China’s massive new tariffs by shifting exports elsewhere. But alternative destinations will not be easily found for certain items prized in the Chinese market, such as chicken feet and fish heads.
Products from poultry, pig and cattle farms make up America’s top 10 agricultural shipments to China, which in April imposed retaliatory 125% tariffs on goods from the U.S.
