HONG KONG — Alibaba Group has taken a number of concrete steps to integrate its operations in the latest sign that the Chinese tech giant is ditching a major restructuring plan announced in 2023 and instead focusing on an AI-centered revamp, Nikkei Asia has learned.
On Thursday night, the Hangzhou-based company removed all restrictions on internal website access between business units, which previously prevented staff from accessing posts under any business unit except their own. The company also started to replace staff ID cards labeled with specific unit names, like its logistic arm “Cainiao,” with unified “Alibaba” cards, multiple employees told Nikkei.
