RAYONG, Thailand — Chinese state-owned Changan Automobile said on Friday that it has started production at its plant in Thailand, underscoring how carmakers from the world’s No. 2 economy are accelerating into the Southeast Asian manufacturing hub.

The company’s first overseas factory, in the city of Rayong in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor industrial zone, has an annual capacity of 100,000 units and will churn out vehicles including electric cars for both the local market and export.
