TOKYO — Japan’s exports of motor vehicles dropped 5.8% in value in April following a tariff hike of 25% by U.S. President Donald Trump, while outbound shipments of auto parts also decreased ahead of a similar hike coming into effect.
Overall outbound shipments rose 2.0%, a seventh consecutive monthly expansion, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, as some companies may have been racing to front-load orders in anticipation of U.S. levies.
