Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the UN Secret-General to play an active role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. He particularly emphasized the urgent need to initiate comprehensive dialogue on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, highlighting its central importance to achieving lasting peace in South Asia.

The delegation also provided a detailed briefing on the humanitarian consequences of the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, India’s unjustified aggression, and the violations of the UN Charter and international law.

Secret-General António Guterres welcomed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and reaffirmed the United Nations’ strong interest in promoting peace, restraint, and diplomacy in the region.

He assured the delegation that the United Nations will continue to fully support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and the peaceful resolution of disputes, in accordance with the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Secret-General reiterated that the UN remains fully engaged in promoting peace and stability in South Asia and will continue to support all initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and resolving conflicts in the region.
