TOKYO — The governor of Aguascalientes said on Tuesday she was optimistic that Japanese automaker Nissan Motor would keep open its two plants in the central Mexican state.

The embattled company, which has a long history of manufacturing in Mexico, last month announced its new business restructuring plan called “Re: Nissan”. This set out a target to reduce the number of its automobile assembly plants from 17 to 10 locations globally by March 2028.
