TOKYO — Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday stressed Japan’s potential to develop renewable energy sources and vowed to raise their share in the country’s overall power supply, indicating he will prioritize decarbonization as his government prepares an economic stimulus plan.
“Japan has large untapped potential for renewable energy development, including geothermal, wind and small-scale hydroelectric power,” Ishiba said in an interview with Nikkei Asia.
