TOKYO — Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings will produce hydrogen using geothermal power in Indonesia, while major Japanese construction company Obayashi will do so in New Zealand as both companies look to tap demand for renewably derived low-emission energy.
In collaboration with central Japan’s Yamanashi prefecture and Japanese materials group Toray, TEPCO plans to work with Indonesian state-run oil company Pertamina to install hydrogen production equipment at a geothermal power plant in the country’s eastern region. Production is set to begin as early as 2027.
