GUANGZHOU — China’s electric vehicle industry is rushing to comply with new national safety standards for EV batteries.

The government will require safeguards to prevent a fire or explosion for at least two hours after the failure of an EV battery cell. This revision in the standards, the first in five years, takes effect in July 2026.
