Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani recently disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan was disappointed by his famous entrance scene in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
The memorable moment features Khan’s character, Rahul Raichand, exiting a helicopter and rushing towards a waiting Jaya Bachchan, which has become etched in the memories of many Indian filmgoers.
Advani, who was an assistant director on the film, shared on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast Cyrus Says that while Khan was initially excited about the scene, he expected something more dramatic.
“When we told him that his entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is with the helicopter, he thought he is going to jump off the helicopter, while he just had to step down,” Advani explained. The focus of the scene was primarily on Jaya Bachchan, who expresses her joy at her son’s arrival.
Released in 2001, the film was one of the most expensive Indian films at the time and went on to break several box office records, grossing over ₹100 crore worldwide.
In recent years, Shah Rukh has made a strong comeback with three major hits in 2023—Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. He is also set to star in King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, alongside his daughter Suhana Khan in 2025.
