Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], November 7 (ANI): After the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution on the restoration of Article 370 on Wednesday, J-K BJP President Sat Sharma said that they will not succeed as long as there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are in the Centre.

Speaking to ANI, Sharma said, “When it comes to the interest of the country, of the state, of the people of J-K, we left our meeting and hit the streets. 28 of our soldiers are fighting even in the Assembly today.””The resolution has been brought by the National Conference. It knows that even if the resolution is brought 100 times, as long as there are Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in the Centre, they won’t succeed. But they are doing this to distract people. They are trying to disturb the peace in J-K,” he added.

BJP leader Ravinder Raina said that BJP will never accept this “agenda” of the National Conference and Congress and not allow Article 370 to be restored.

“BJP will never accept this agenda of National Conference and Congress. BJP will never let Article 370 be brought back to JK. It is clear that Article 370 has become history and it can never return,” Raina said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly witnessed an uproar after Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudh proposed the resolution on the restoration of Article 370 and Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma objected to it.

J-K Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra condemned the behaviour of BJP MLAs and accused them of climbing over tables and called it an insult to the Assembly.

“Since the time BJP entered this Assembly, they have not maintained the dignity of the parliament practices in JK. The way they climbed on the tables, is an insult to the Assembly. The way they behave will not be accepted by any section of society. Until the time a holistic and inclusive approach is adopted here and the running of two power centres here – this is not the favour of JK or the country,” Karra said.

“I think LG Sahab has not accepted the fact that there is an elected govt here now. It also means that he will not permit democracy to prosper here,” he added.

Defending the decision, Deputy CM Surinder Kumar Choudh said that the proposal was brought “only to secure the future” of the people of J-K.

“We only spoke about the Special status which was snatched from us in 2019. If you get BJP’s ‘narco-test’ done, you will find that they also want the same. We brought the resolution only to secure the future of the people of J-K. The people of Jammu have suffered the most in this as people from outside are buying land and getting employment there,” he said.

“BJP at the Centre has promised special status to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh also…When they (BJP) take the name of Lord Ram ( in assembly), we want to tell them that everyone should have their rights and JK should get its special status…Has militancy ended in Rajouri, Chenab Valley, KathuaSamba during their tenure under LG?” Dy CM said.

The first session of the new assembly will conclude on November 8.

The restoration of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood as well as the implementation of the autonomy resolution was one of the main promises made by the National Conference in its manifesto for the Jammu-Kashmir elections. (ANI)
