Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to take strict action against tax defaulters and ensure they are brought into the tax net.
Presiding over a key review meeting on strategies to enhance revenue collection, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of using technology to boost the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) performance.
Officials briefed him on the deployment and monitoring of video analytics in the sugar industry. Highlighting its benefits, the Prime Minister stated that integrating video analytics would enhance revenue collection, prevent hoarding, and stabilize sugar prices.
He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring sugar is available to the public at affordable rates and directed consistent monitoring of sugar stocks to maintain a steady supply chain.
PM Shehbaz also ordered strict measures against tax evasion and under-reporting by sugar mills. He noted that the FBR’s ongoing digitization efforts are expected to generate billions of rupees for the national treasury.
He further instructed the swift completion of FBR’s value chain digitization and called for the rapid integration of video analytics into the cement and tobacco industries.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik, and senior government officials.
