YANGON — Myanmar’s milit government has enacted a law that represses information on the internet and imposes penalties involving virtual private networks without authorization, complicating how businesses engage in daily operations.

The cybersecurity law, which took effect Jan. 1, stipulates that individuals found guilty of disseminating information considered “inappropriate for public viewing” are subject to penalties such as up to six months in prison.
