TOKYO — Eisaku Ito has had an eventful first two weeks on the job as president and chief executive of Japanese industrial conglomerate Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
The global upheaval caused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s high tariffs and reversals of long-standing foreign policy stances carries echoes of 1989, which Ito, then just two years into his career at MHI, spent studying gas turbines at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
