TOKYO — Few would dispute that Lee Jae-myung, former leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, is the frontrunner in South Korea’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for June 3.
In the race to succeed impeached former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from office by the Constitutional Court on April 4, Lee currently faces no serious challengers, either within his own party’s prim or from the conservative ruling People Power Party (PPP).
