Pakistani comedian Javed Kodu passes away
Renowned Pakistani stage and television actor and Javed Kodu, widely recognized for his comedic talent and distinctive short stature has passed away after a long battle with illness.
Funeral prayers for Javed Kodu will be held today (Sunday) at the marquee behind his residence in Singhpura, followed by burial at the Singhpura graveyard.
Javed Kodu, a well-known and much-loved performer, has passed away after spending over 40 years in the entertainment world. He was known for bringing laughter, strength, and emotion to his roles, according to media reports.
Born with dwarfism, Kodu faced many difficulties in both his personal and professional life. Despite being mocked and treated unfairly, he became one of Pakistan’s most respected theater artists.
His famous stage name “Kodu” was given to him with love by the legend comedian Akhtar Hussain Albela.
He started his acting career in 1981 with a play called Sode Baaz and later acted in more than 150 Punjabi and Urdu films, along with countless stage shows.
One of his most loved TV roles was in the drama Ashiyana, which fans still remember fondly.
He is survived by his wife and two sons — Salman Kodu and Shera. Shera has followed in his father’s footsteps and is known for his performances on the comedy show Mazaaq Raat.
Javed Kodu’ s contributions to Pakistani theater and film are immeasurable and his passing marks the end of an era for stage comedy.
