TOKYO — The takeover battle for a Japanese company with world-beating sensor technology may be on the verge of escalating as Yageo, a Taiwanese electronic components maker, intends to sharply increase its offer price for Shibaura Electronics to counter a white knight bid from Japanese parts supplier MinebeaMitsumi, Nikkei has learned.

Yageo is looking to offer 5,000 yen or more per share of Shibaura, up from the current offer price of 4,300 yen. This exceeds the 4,500 yen offer MinebeaMitsumi announced on April 10.
