TOKYO — The Roomba robot vacuum is seeking to stage a comeback with a new lineup that boasts highly sensitive sensors to ensure thorough cleaning as upstart Chinese competitors expand global share.

The new models, unveiled Wednesday, all come equipped with lidar sensors, which use pulses of laser light to determine the presence, shape and distance of objects, often in great detail. They are scheduled to hit the market on Friday. Previous high-end Roombas relied on image recognition that used cameras while budget models did not have any cameras.
