BALI, Indonesia — Demand for nickel, a key component in electric vehicle batteries, is expected to weaken this year as the EV sector shifts toward other battery components and China’s economic woes continue, industry players said on Thursday.
The bleak outlook is dealing a blow to Indonesia’s aspiration as the world’s largest producer of the mineral to build a domestic EV battery supply chain.
