TOKYO — Japan is exploring increasing its imports of American corn as part of tariff negotiations, Nikkei has learned, seeking to reach a compromise with the Trump administration by helping to offset reduced U.S. exports to China.
The U.S. is Japan’s largest source of corn imports, accounting for nearly 80% in 2024. The grain is mainly used for animal feed.
