SAO PAULO — BYD’s aggressive bid for growth is running into trouble in Brazil as calls mount from other automakers for immediate tariff increases to keep China’s biggest electric-vehicle maker from building up inventory.
A car carrier loaded with more than 7,000 BYD vehicles left a port in China’s Jiangsu province in late April, with Chinese state media saying it would take about a month to reach the Port of Itajai in southern Brazil’s Santa Catarina.
