NEW DELHI — With Himalayan herbs and oil-based scents, local players in India’s burgeoning perfume market are tapping into domestic fragrance traditions to distinguish themselves as more foreign brands launch their products in the market.

India’s perfume market has grown to be the third-largest market in the Asia-Pacific region, after Japan and China, supported by an aspirational middle class with more disposable income, surging e-commerce sales, increased brand consciousness, greater exposure to global luxury trends through digital media and booming demand among millennials and Gen Z, who constitute around 34% of India’s 1.4 billion people.
