PM Shehbaz voices Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran over Israeli attacks
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan fully supports Iran and its people against Israel’s unprovoked and unjust attacks.
During a phone call with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that Iran has the right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
PM Shehbaz also offered deep condolences over the loss of lives in these attacks and reminded that Pakistan had backed Iran at the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting held the day before. He described Israel’s actions as reckless and dangerous, posing a serious threat to peace in the region and the world.
He further condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinians, calling them a genocide being carried out without any consequences. He urged the international community and the UN to urgently take meaningful steps to stop Israel’s aggressive and illegal actions. The prime minister assured that Pakistan is committed to peace in the region and is ready to play its part.
President Pezeshkian thanked PM Shehbaz for Pakistan’s support, especially at the UN. He said this showed the strong and brotherly ties between the two nations. The Iranian president also shared his views on the crisis and asked the international community, especially Islamic countries, to unite and deal with the situation together. Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact.
This conversation came after a major escalation in conflict between Israel and Iran on Friday. It started with an Israeli airstrike that targeted senior Iranian milit leaders and nuclear scientists. This attack pushed the region into a dangerous new stage of war. Reports say that top Iranian commanders and leaders of the Revolution Guards were killed, and Iran’s air defences were badly damaged. Israel, in comparison, suffered very few losses in the early phase.
But things quickly changed later that night when Iran fired a large number of missiles at Israel. This attack reportedly overwhelmed Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. The situation has now raised serious concerns about long-term stability in the region.
