TOKYO — China and North Korea are deepening milit cooperation with Russia to alarming levels. In return for their support in the war in Ukraine, Moscow is helping these countries enhance their milit capabilities — a quid pro quo that could trigger a chain reaction of conflicts around the world.

Particularly concerning is the growing milit partnership between Russia and North Korea. According to estimates by Ukrainian authorities, North Korea had supplied Russia with 2.8 million artillery shells and up to 60 ballistic missiles in the period between the start of the conflict and this summer.
