TOKYO — Tesla will start selling its home battery system through Yamada Denki, Japan’s largest electronics store chain, in a partnership with Yamada Holdings, the chain’s operator, as part of a strategic push in its virtual power plant (VPP) business, Nikkei has learned.

Tesla is already a major player in the energy storage market in the U.S. and elsewhere. VPPs can service multiple homes by storing power when less expensive surplus electricity is available and selling that energy during demand spikes, thus generating revenue.
