NEW YORK — Americans will choose their next president in voting that concludes Tuesday, with the terms of trade for Asian economies facing a reset if Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris and keeps his campaign promise to increase tariffs.

Polls show a close race between Trump, a Republican former president, and Harris, a Democrat now serving as vice president. The outcome under the Electoral College system, in which each state receives electoral votes based on its congressional representation, will likely be decided in the seven “swing” states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, rgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada.
