DENPASAR/JAKARTA, Indonesia — In September, officials on the Indonesian resort island of Bali attended a ground-breaking ceremony for a $20 billion Bali Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
Designed as a subway to alleviate the nightmarish congestion in the island’s heavily touristed south, the system is to be built as a joint venture between Indonesia’s private sector and the state-owned China Railway Construction Corp. (CRCC).
