NEW DELHI — In August 2024, Indri Dru, a single malt whisky from India’s northern state of Hana, took five medals at the annual USA Sprits Ratings awards, astonishing many participants. Among other prizes, Indri Dru was crowned Whiskey of the Year, Single Malt Whiskey of the Year and Best Spirit of the Year by Country.

Indri’s success is a clear example of the growing recognition and attention that Indian brands are receiving on the international connoisseur circuit. Godawan, from the northwestern state of Rajasthan, won the Taste Master of the Year award at The Spirits Business World Whisky Masters competition in London in July and the Single Malt Whisky of the Year title at the London Spirits Competition in March (for its collectors’ edition, Godawan 100).
